The Comfort House provides support and advocacy to children who are alleged victims of abuse and neglect in Brooke and Hancock Counties.
Services We Provide
A forensic interview is a structured conversation with a child intended to elicit detailed information about a possible event(s) that the child may have experienced or witnessed.
The purposes of a forensic interview are the following:
- To obtain information from a child that may be helpful in a criminal investigation.
- To assess the safety of the child’s living arrangements.
- To obtain information that will either corroborate or refute allegations or suspicions of abuse and neglect.
- To assess the need for medical treatment and psychological care.
Community Prevention Programs
Comfort House serves as a member of the Brooke and Hancock County Partners in Prevention, a team dedicated to raising awareness and preventing child abuse in our community.
Specialized Training Programs
Annual trainings are coordinated and held locally to provide updated information regarding child-centered issues.

Support for Victims and their Family
The child and family advocate provides support by acting as a liaison to families and the system. The advocate works with the family to navigate them through the process and ensure they receive the services that will best assist them.
Referrals for Additional Services
The child and family advocate helps to connect families to medical resources, mental health professionals, charitable organizations, and other community resources to meet each family’s personalized needs.
Court Advocacy & Preparation
Comfort House is available to families throughout the span of the case to assist in court preparations and understanding. It is done in a child-friendly manner by an advocate familiar with the child.
Multi-Disciplinary Investigative Team (MDIT)
Comfort House is a part of the Hancock and Brooke County MDIT, which advocates for children and families to ensure that no victim falls through the cracks.
Advocate to Hold Offenders Accountable for Crimes
Comfort House is available to provide courtroom testimony help ensure justice is accomplished.
