Are you in the market for a home and need help with down payment and closing costs? CHANGE, Inc. can help! Partnering with the Northern Panhandle Home Consortium and local lenders, CHANGE, Inc. has provided down payment and closing cost assistance for approximately 392 new homebuyers in the counties of Brooke and Hancock (including the City of Weirton) since 1996.
In order to receive down payment and closing cost assistance, you must complete an application, be a first-time home buyer, meet income guidelines, be pre-qualified for a mortgage by a lender, have a sales contract on a home, and complete a home buyer education course (you can find your education options here on our website under the “Community Services” tab). The HOME First Time Homebuyer Program funds are considered a forgivable loan if you live in the home for five years. After you have shown you have lived in the home for the required amount of time, the lien against your home is released and you do not have to pay any of the funds back to the program. To check your eligibility requirements, you can visit our Housing Program pages here on our website.
HOME First Time Home Buyer funds are currently available in Brooke and Hancock County as well as the City of Weirton. CHANGE, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Housing Program. Loans are available on a first come, first served basis regardless of race, color, religion, sex, familial status, national origin, military status, disability or ancestry.
Anyone interested in purchasing a home, or would like more information about the program, can review the website at www.test.changeinc.org or contact Joy Reese, CHANGE, Inc. Housing Counseling Program Manager at 304-797-7733 ext 405.
