CHANGE, Inc. received word that the agency has been awarded a grant that will help them to continue providing transportation services to the residents of Hancock and Brooke Counties. Judy Raveaux, CEO of the agency, stated that the Section 5310 Contract Services Program will go into effect April 1, 2015 and will enable the agency to continue to provide transportation services to the elderly, disabled and general public. We are extremely thankful to Bill Robinson, Executive Director and his staff at the WV Division of Public Transit, for their support of our programs and activities in the Northern Panhandle. Knowing that the JARC program was ending, CHANGE, Inc. notified their riders that as of March 31, 2015, they would no longer be able to provide them transportation to and from work, due to the elimination of the JARC funding under Moving Ahead for Program in the 21st Century Act or otherwise known as MAP 21. Although MAP 21 is a positive move forward, the local impact was creating hardships for our riders, stated Raveaux.
For 2014, CHANGE has provided over 15,000 rides to individuals without the means of transportation, to and from their places of work, educational institutions and non-medical appointments throughout Brooke and Hancock Counties, and under MAP 21, that service would have to stop. We will be notifying all our riders immediately that the transportation services will be continuing, in order to eliminate any worries they are having regarding their transportation needs.
