Elderly, handicapped, and lower‐income residents receive assistance across four counties.
CHANGE, Inc. offers the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), which assesses the energy efficiency needs of low‐income, elderly, and disabled individuals across Brooke, Hancock, Ohio, and Marshall Counties in West Virginia and makes the needed repairs such as the addition of insulation, furnace modification and retrofit, and/or repairs to the homes of families up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Level guidelines.
“A family of four individuals could make as much as $48,600 in total annual household income and be eligible for assistance through the Weatherization Assistance Program,” stated David Ruhl, Weatherization Manager at CHANGE, Inc.
The Weatherization program takes a comprehensive look at increasing the energy efficiency of a home. The WAP staff performs an energy audit on each home to determine what the energy needs are, as well as testing the refrigerator, furnace, and the house itself to assess for leaks and inefficient energy consumption. From these tests, the crews determine exactly what needs to be done in terms of repair or replacement.
In 2015 through CHANGE, Inc.’s Weatherization Assistance Program, 46 households received Weatherization services and 57 households received energy audits.
